What to Look for in an Outplacement Provider

Provides the solution you need

Make sure you get what you need - different groups of people require different solutions - a provider should be able to help you map those out (if you are not sure of the extent of service you need) and adapt those to your needs - not all organisations can afford to have 12 people released at the same time for a workshop.

Service levels and value for money

Your outplacement provider should be clear with you on the amount of time they spend with your employees or on site and the amount of people they intend to engage with. This will help you make sure you get what you pay for.

Feedback and effectiveness

Agreeing service levels is only half the story - getting feedback from the outplacement provider is crucial to the success of the outplacement provision. Although the provider might not be able to provide you with details of progress of each employee, they can (and should) update you on workshop uptake, engagement and success rates.

Cultural fit

A good outplacement provider will become more approachable when they are seen by the people in the business as one of their own. Having a team of professionals that will immerse themselves in your organisational culture will create a calmer atmosphere and open communication channels for those affected by the redundancy or change.

Information, advice and guidance accreditation

The most common one of these is the Matrix™ Standard. This quality mark ensures that the consultants who work with your employees are providing impartial information and advice without bias and which is suitable for the needs and capabilities of each employee.

Dedicated and professional with relevant experience

Effective career coaching comes from experience and knowledge. Make sure that the team you work with has experience in your industry or sector - it will make it easier for them to communicate with your employees.

Fits your budget and can access funding

Last but not least, your provider needs to offer the solution you seek for a price you are willing to pay. Some can access funding to go towards up-skilling your staff either in soft skills (CV writing and interview skills) or hard-earned qualifications.
