First Line Management Qualifications

Becoming a first line manager is normally the first step into formal management, producing a set of challenges and responsibilities that are far wider than that of the team leader. Ensuring that the first line manager is fully equipped to deal with their role (and for future roles) is vital to developing the managerial and leadership capability of your organisation.
Who is a first line management qualification for?
A typical first line manager has a wider span of control, responsibility and authority and a greater degree of autonomy than a team leader. They will usually be planning work looking several weeks or months ahead and be operating with less supervision and control by others.
Flexible content to suit your organisation's needs
The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 qualifications in First Line Management are designed to give practising or potential first line managers the foundation for their formal development in the role.
They include a diverse range of optional units, allowing organisations to custom build a qualification focusing on the key areas of team leading that are most relevant to their staff development needs (which might well have been identified from a development centre, a training needs analysis or 360° feedback).

- Planning change in the workplace
Award, Certificate or Diploma?
You can choose an Award, Certificate or Diploma at Level 3. The Award is run over 4 or 5 days depending on your choice of units and it develops basic management skills and assists delegates in gaining the basic knowledge required at this level. The focus is on highly practical, applicable tools. The Certificate provides a deeper exploration of management techniques and the Diploma is very comprehensive, requiring a minimum of 220 guided learning hours.
First Line Management development is often overlooked, even though it provides the foundation for careers and the supports the deployment of management practice across the organisation.
