ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management for the NHS
This dynamic programme in First Line Management is being delivered to a diverse range of staff across the NHS, providing them with transferable leadership and management skills.
An Institute of Leadership and Management accredited qualification, this flexible programme is designed to work with you to enhance and develop your management skills.
AMSPAR (Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists) recognises the value of this qualification in career progression and can issue a certificate of attendance to successful candidates as well as admitting them to membership.
NHS trusts and hospitals can utilise JIF (Joint Investment Framework) funding for this nationally recognised qualification, with its highly interactive and supportive learning, as it focuses on the application of practical tools to the individual's working environment.
Key objectives
The key objective of this programme is to improve the management and leadership skills of non-clinical staff. It will assist delegates in dealing in stress management, communication, time management and delegation whilst empowering each individual to reach their full potential.

The ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management
This 5 day programme is delivered over 5 or 10 weeks and aims to give practising or potential first line managers or people in a management capacity the foundation for their formal development within this role. It is a practical programme that is designed to meet a variety of learning styles, whilst recognising that delegates have different educational backgrounds and experiences.
The programme includes the following topics:
- Coaching and training your work team
- Solving problems and making decisions
- Understanding change in the workplace
- Managing stress in the workplace
Where does the qualification lead?
The main purpose of the Award is to improve performance, which for some is an end in itself. However, it can be also be a stepping stone to future personal development and further qualifications. The ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management can contribute towards further ILM accredited programmes. These are all recognised by the qualifications regulator, Ofqual and will count towards continuous professional development.
