NLP is certainly a hot topic and more and more people are becoming aware of the benefits of “mastering the power of their own minds”. I am one to agree that there are infinite possibilities available to us in our lives and the more we open our minds, the more those possibilities become available to us and the more options we have.

NLP [Neuro Linguistic Programming] is the study of human excellence. It asks:
- What is the difference between competence and excellence?
- How do I do the things I do? How can I do them better and with more purpose?
- How can I become more successful in my professional and personal life?

NLP is not a theory but a set of tools. Its purpose is to be useful, to increase choice, and to enhance the quality of all aspects of your life. NLP has many applications. Above all, it offers a fast track to inner confidence, purposefulness, awareness, and accelerated learning.

Long gone are the days of only doing and being what others say I must do or be, of going through life with feelings of limited existence. You can go a long way to doing or being whatever you want to do or be, simply by mastering these skills and for some even the slightest exposure to an NLP toolbox provides them with the skill and motivation to achieve what they never previously thought was possible.

But now, a new problem has arisen when trying to find a credible and masterful NLP trainer and this is by far the most important element. I have encountered some delegates who have NLP training certificates, who in my opinion are devoid of demonstrable skills and on the other hand I have met practitioners who have great insight and vision when working with others

Here are some tips when finding who to train with:
How well do those promoting the training demonstrate their own awareness of NLP in themselves and in their communications? I would expect all practitioners of NLP to model their values and beliefs and to demonstrate and practice these skills in a personal and professional capacity.

Is the course value for money?

There are many free and low cost NLP training offerings, and remember if you pay cheap, you will get cheap – take my word for it!

Testimonials:
Check their website. If there are not any testimonials there, will they provide you with some when you contact them? Testimonials from previous students are a great way of knowing what this training company is good at achieving.

Is the course accredited by relevant bodies?
This is important to check. Is this the company’s own accredited programme or is it accredited by a recognized NLP governing body. In order to teach these subjects, accrediting bodies, such as INLPTA, must check that the course contents meet the training standards and that the teacher has completed a suitable training course which entitles them to teach the material.

The size of group:
Check the size of group and the style in which the programme is being delivered. Be wary of so called ‘accelerated’ courses as there is no time to practice!. It is important that when you learn NLP you experience it. Depending on the size of the group, will there be other qualified NLP support trainers. This is a key point as even the best trainer in the world cannot watch everyone practice all in one go.

The venue:

Remember that the suitability of the venue can make a massive difference to the course. If the room is too small or poorly ventilated it could have an adverse effect of the learning experience.
