Middle Managers

The step up to managing managers can be a very challenging one.  The Middle Manager often has an operational role as well as an equally important strategic one.  Getting the balance right can have fantastic effects on your business and team performance as well as reducing the stress on your middle managers.

Middle management development is critical, providing the operational and strategic links in the business.  Our programmes are specifically designed to take into the account the tensions and often critical choices middle managers have to make in the day to day operation of your organisation.

Middle managers can be distinguished from the first line managers below them by their wider span of control, counted in the tens and possibly extending to a few hundreds. A tier of team leaders or first line managers will frequently mediate their links with the people for whom they have responsibility. This means that they will have a similar or even smaller number of people reporting directly to them than your managers nearer the front line, but will be accountable for the performance of all those over whom they have control, direct or indirect.

The People Development Team can devise programmes that specifically meet your needs for effective Middle Manager performance.  This training can be delivered face-to-face or via e-learning, distance learning or in any combination of these.  Where appropriate your programme can be accredited or endorsed.

Topics covered include:

  • Developing the Manager as a Critical Thinker
  • Managing improvement
  • Making a Financial Case
  • Leading Innovation and Change
  • Managing Projects
