This two day management programme examines the key skills and
knowledge required for successful entry into the world of management
and leadership and to give first time managers the foundation skills
needed to lead and manage their team effectively.
It focuses on the application of the learning into everyday activity
and on completion of the programme individuals will have developed a
personal action plan for further development.
Who is it for?
This programme is suitable for newcomers to leadership
and management, as well as those who wish to explore this area as part
of their career development. It is also suitable for directors/senior managers in
small to medium sized organisations.

This session focuses on the argument about the differences between
leadership and management and in this session we will examine whether
it is possible to be a leader without managing and vice versa, as
well as exploring the impact this has on the teams we lead. |
10.15 - 11.00 The Six Key Skills of Leadership
What makes leaders successful? How can we replicate this success and
ensure that we achieve the results that we want? This highly
interactive session looks in depth at the skills that are guaranteed
to bring leadership success |
11.00 - 11.15 Break

11.15 - 12.30 Communication Skills
This is a fascinating session exploring how we communicate. Why is
it some of our messages are misheard or ignored? How can we ensure
that we are sending the right message and not sabotaging our
communications before we start? We will be looking at developing
your listening and speaking skills for greater effect as well as
exploring the impact of body language |
12.30 - 13.30 Lunch

A short activity to demonstrate the power of body language in

13.45 - 15.00 What is my role?
Many first time managers do not understand the role of management,
so this session looks at the role of the manager in today's
organisations, with all it's stresses and strains. During the
session we will look at responsibilities, authorities and
accountabilities as well as the manager's role in managing
performance |

15.15 - 16.00 What's my style?
Many new managers develop a management style based on what they
have seen work (or not work) in the workplace. Everyone can choose
their behaviour and leadership / management is no different, so
this session is designed to show you the choices you can make and
how they will affect the outcome |

important aspect of effective leadership and management and this
session looks at a number of motivational theories and allows you
to put them to the test, developing a set of 10 golden rules to
enhance motivation. By the end of this session you will also have
found out what truly motivates you |

11.15 - 12.30 Planning and Organising Work
How is work allocated out to individuals fairly and equitably, what
tools exist to help us as managers manage this process? Why is this
different from delegation and how should managers effectively

13.45 - 14.30 What is coaching and why use it?
This introduction to coaching starts by examining the business case
for coaching and defining what coaching is comparing it with
training, mentoring and counselling. We explore the benefits of
coaching the team and how it can be practically applied and how it
rapidly gets improved results |
14.30 - 14.45 Break

14.45 - 16.00 Coaching
This fast paced session introduces the concept of GROW and provides
space for individuals to practice the skills of coaching using the
skills developed over the two day programme |
