Course overview
The ILM Level 5 Award in Management requires delegates to analyse their personal performance and
that of the organisation, in order for them to identify the required outcomes for them
to succeed in their role. It is designed with a focus on highly practical and applicable tools.
Who is it for?
This programme is suitable for most practising or potential middle managers, however Level 5 qualifications
require a high level of commitment from delegates. The ideal delegate will have the responsibility
for the control of activities and work output of other managers as well as their own teams. Further

Learning outcomes
Understanding the management role
By the end of the session, delegates will understand:
- organisational purpose, stakeholders, structures, functional areas and managerial roles
- the specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals
- how communication and interpersonal relationships affect managerial performance in the workplace
- barriers to communications and effective interpersonal relationships and how to devise strategies to overcome these
- how to critically assess their own knowledge, skills, personal attributes and behaviour and how these affect their managerial ability
- how to identify areas for personal development to improve their own managerial behaviour
- how to plan and set priorities for future development
Leading innovation and change
By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:
- identify an opportunity for innovation and improvement in the organisation and the rationale for this choice in the context of organisational objectives
- evaluate innovation and improvement to determine feasibility and viability
- lead and manage change within an organisation
- identify benefits and implications of the change for stakeholders
- provide a detailed implementation plan that will lead stakeholders through the change
Delivering impactful presentations across the organisation
By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:
- effectively present their ideas to their board or teams
- identify the aims and objectives of a presentation and the intended audience
- research and evaluate information
- plan the content of the presentation and prepare visual aids
- prepare the location, equipment and materials for a presentation
- present an argument that is substantiated by facts
- respond appropriately to questions from the audience
- evaluate their own ability to make professional presentations
Ideal delegate profile
The ideal delegate will have the ability and opportunity to:
- Demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills
- Implement improvements in organisational performance
- Encourage innovation
- Be involved in developing strategic business plans
- Manage risk
- Plan workforce requirements
The ideal candidate:
- Should have the experience, capability or potential to handle complex and unpredictable work situations effectively
- Be able to critically evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data to make judgements and to frame appropriate questions to achieve a solution
- Be able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
- Have the experience, capability or potential to innovate and work in a creative way
- Have the ability to respond to change and ability to multi-task
- And finally and very importantly the ideal candidate has:
- the opportunity in the role, to produce reports and assignments to an A level literacy standard
- the time, the energy, and the drive to complete assignments within the given time
- the commitment to attend ALL the days
Funding options
Some companies in the East of England with less than 250 employees may be eligible to
access up to 70% off the cost of the programme through the ‘Beyond 2010’ funding initiative.
